Oliver Lopez, PhD ~ Board Member

Dr. Oliver Lopez is an accomplished educator and biostatistician with a diverse range of experiences spanning academia, clinical research, and community engagement. He is an instructional associate professor of mathematics at Chapman University where he’s devoted to cultivating students as future statistical practitioners, equipping them with analytical tools essential for diverse applications in life, work, and research. He also previously worked in industry sponsored phase I, II, and III clinical trials as a biostatistician and is currently a member of the Southern California Kaiser Institutional Review Board.
Beyond the classroom, he collaborates with non-profit organizations focused on STEM outreach. He has also held several leadership and governing roles in non-profit organizations that inform his approach to community building and problem solving. He has profound experience in the management of local and statewide nonprofit organizations with a focus on charity, access to education, leadership mentoring and STEM education for high school student.
Dr. Lopez is an alumnus of Chapman University, Cal State Fullerton, and earned a PhD in biostatistics from the University of Southern California. Notably, he completed his entire educational journey as an undocumented person. He also previously benefitted from Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and other legislation providing relief for undocumented persons.
